Duboce Triangle is a small wedge of Victorian and Edwardian homes between the Castro, the Mission, and the Lower Haight, named for Duboce Avenue — itself honoring Victor Duboce, a San Francisco supervisor and Spanish-American War officer. Built up after 1900 and largely spared by the 1906 fire, it centers on Duboce Park and the streetcar portal where the N-Judah dives underground.
Things most people don’t know
Named for a war hero
Duboce Avenue and the neighborhood honor Victor Duboce, a city supervisor who commanded San Francisco's volunteer regiment in the Spanish-American War.
Where the N-Judah dives under
At Duboce Park, the N-Judah Muni Metro plunges into the 1928 Sunset Tunnel through the Duboce Portal — a favorite trainspotting and dog-walking spot.
One of the city's best dog parks
Duboce Park's off-leash meadow, ringed by Victorian flats and a community garden, is among the most beloved dog runs in San Francisco.
America's oldest public darkroom
The Harvey Milk Photo Center on the park's edge — founded in 1937 — is the oldest and largest public photography center and darkroom in the United States.
Pre-quake Victorians intact
Spared major 1906 fire damage, the triangle keeps a dense, intact stock of pre-earthquake Victorian and Edwardian homes on its quiet, leafy blocks.
