Sherwood Forest is a mid-20th-century subdivision laid out across the wooded southern and western slopes of Mount Davidson, San Francisco's highest natural hill. Its developers gave the winding streets a Robin Hood theme, with names like Robinhood Drive, Sherwood Court, Dalewood Way, Lansdale Avenue and Idora Avenue. The homes are large single-family residences, some dating to the 1930s, set among the eucalyptus that Adolph Sutro planted decades earlier. The neighborhood sits just below Mount Davidson Park, whose 20 hilltop acres the city acquired as parkland in 1929. Robinhood Drive is often cited as the highest residential street in San Francisco.
